Dividends are typically paid quarterly, though some are paid monthly, annually, or even bi-annually. There are also special dividends which provide a one-time payment to shareholders - these are typically given when a company makes extra cash.

Dividends most commonly come as cash. However, they can also take the form of stock, property, and even promissory notes when a company can’t pay.
